PSAs That We Actually Need

You may have heard of the classic this is your brain on drugs campaign, brought to you by the Partnership For a Drug Free America, to make sure that you only do their drugs and not the frying pans you find on the street. It was quite the meme for a while and in 1997 they launched a gritty reboot specifically targeting heroin use where Rachel Leigh Cook smashes a kitchen with a frying pan. It was super effective.

It turns out that no one looks at a 30 second video of a frying pan and thinks "damn I like heroin but I never thought about the frying pan analogy before, guess I should stop". There are, however, a number of subjects about which you can be educated in less than 5 seconds that will permanently change your life for the better.

• Wear Your Goddamn Seatbelt - I guess we have these, but they're usually framed in the context of being punished by the police - the 'click it or ticket' campaign. The real reason you should wear your goddamn seatbelt is because without it you will be horrifically injured.
  
  You cannot be "thrown clear" of a crash. Well you can be, but probably not in as many pieces as you would like.
• Don't drive on a flooded street - your car will float away and you will be sad (or possibly dead)
• Don't wander around the highway on foot

• Do not goad a small woman or child into shooting your ludicrious gun. It's not cool, you're basically just assaulting them by proxy.
• Improper grip on a large revolver can result in a double-fire.

• Plaster of paris gets hot when it cures. So does concrete. Don't stick your hands in that shit.

• Don't put things in peoples mouths if they're having a seizure. They might bite their tongue but if you put a fork in their mouth or whatever they'll break their teeth.
• Don't put a severe bleeding wound under a tap - it washes away blood clotting agents, just apply pressure and call 911.
• Don't lean your head back during a nose bleed - blood running down airways is not advisable, pinch the bridge of your nose for 10 minutes or so and lean forward.
• Antibiotics will not cure viral infections such as a cold, sore throat of the flu.
• Complete your entire prescription of antibiotics. Do not stop half way or you put yourself at risk for an increased infection that is resistant to antibiotics.
• Your doctor knows more about antibiotics than you do. Do not demand an antibiotic prescription.

• Do not overdose on tylenol. It will cause you to die via liver necrosis. It is extrememly painful and it will take you days to die.
• When firing a gun into your mouth, do not fire straight up. Fire directly into the back of your mouth. The goal is to hit the the brainstem causing instant death. More than one person has blown their entire face off with a shotgun and lived. Don't be that guy.
• Do not drink caustic substances. This guy died, but it seems like a real bad time. This guy lived, lost his esophagus and stomach, and had to have his small intestine grafted directly to the bottom of his trachea on the outside of his rib cage.

In general, if your boss tells you to do something unsafe, tell him fuck off or do it himself. Bosses have been killed by dangerous machinery after attempting to meet this challenge, so that might be an extra bonus for you.
